At Drive It School of Motoring, we’re proud to celebrate another outstanding ADI Part 3 success in Taunton - huge congratulations to Andy on passing his Part 3 test and officially becoming a fully qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
From Classroom to Car: Andy’s Journey – From PDI to ADI with a Standout Part 3 Success
Andy’s journey to becoming an ADI is a brilliant example of consistency, professionalism, and staying focused on what matters most - delivering for the learner in front of you.
Like many entering the profession, Andy committed himself fully to the process. He progressed through each stage with determination and focus, successfully completing:
His Part 1 Theory Test
His Part 2 Driving Ability Test
And now, his Part 3 Instructional Ability Test
However, Andy’s path wasn’t without its challenges. After starting his training with a national driving school, he found his progress had stalled. Despite his efforts, things simply weren’t moving forward - it felt like the journey hadn’t even made it out of first gear.
Recognising the need for change, Andy took control of his future and reached out to Paul Andrews at Drive It School of Motoring - and from that point on, everything changed.
With the right support, structure, and guidance, Andy quickly found his momentum, developing into a confident, capable, and highly effective instructor.
Rising to the Challenge on the Day
What makes this achievement even more impressive is what happened just before the test.
The night before, Andy faced an unexpected setback when his original learner had to cancel due to an emergency - exactly the kind of situation that can unsettle even the most prepared candidate.
Thankfully, Leah stepped in at very short notice to help make the test possible - something we’re incredibly grateful for.
At 8:30 the following morning, Andy arrived calm, composed, and completely unfazed. There was no sign of the last-minute disruption affecting him. Instead, he did what great instructors do - he adapted.
What Is the Part 3 Test?
The Part 3 test assesses a trainee instructor’s ability to deliver a structured, client-centred lesson while being observed by a senior DVSA examiner.
Andy delivered a lesson that demonstrated:
Clear and effective lesson planning
Strong risk management
Excellent teaching and coaching ability
Professionalism throughout
But what truly stood out was this - there was no rehearsed routine or scripted performance. Andy simply did what he does best every day: understanding the learner in front of him, adapting naturally, and delivering a first-class, client-centred lesson.
Top Marks and Outstanding Feedback
The result? Top marks and excellent feedback from the examiner.
With a national first-time pass rate of around 20%, this is a fantastic achievement - and one that reflects Andy’s natural ability, calm approach, and commitment to high-quality instruction.
A Big Thank You to Leah
A huge thank you to Leah for stepping in at the last minute and supporting Andy on the day. Your help made a real difference and ensured everything could go ahead.
