PDI to ADI in less than 12 months with another Part 3 success at Drive It

At Drive It School of Motoring, we’re proud to celebrate another outstanding success -huge congratulations to Nick on passing his Part 3 test and officially becoming a fully qualified DVSA Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).

From Classroom to Car: Nick’s Journey - from PDI to ADI with another part 3 success at Drive It

In 2025, Nick made the decision to step away from his career in teaching and pursue something new - a role where he could continue using his transferable skills while making a real difference in people’s lives. After being recommended to us, he contacted Drive It School of Motoring and began his journey with the guidance of our owner and trainer, Paul Andrews.

Nick wasted no time making progress. He:

• Passed his Part 1 Theory Test

• Successfully completed his Part 2 Driving Ability Test

• Achieved a Part 3 pass in under 12 months from start to finish

His final hurdle - the Part 3 Instructional Ability Test - is widely regarded as the most challenging stage of the process.

What Is the Part 3 Test and how to go from PDI to ADI?

The Part 3 test assesses a trainee instructor’s ability to deliver a structured, client-centred driving lesson while being observed by a senior examiner from the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency.

Nick conducted a full lesson with his learner while being assessed on:

• Lesson planning

• Risk management

• Teaching and coaching ability

• Professional standards

With a national first-time pass rate of around 20%, achieving this result - and doing so in such a short timeframe - is a remarkable accomplishment. It’s a true testament to Nick’s dedication, professionalism, and natural teaching ability.
