What Our Learners Say: The Drive It Difference in Their Own Words

There are plenty of things we could tell you about Drive It School of Motoring.

We could talk about our fantastic team of instructors, our approach to client-centred learning, our driving test results or the hundreds of learners we help on their journey towards becoming safe, confident drivers.

But sometimes, it’s better to let our learners do the talking - And the feedback we’ve received this week alone has made us incredibly proud.

From Taunton to Bridgwater and Williton, learners and parents have been telling us about their experiences with different members of the Drive It team - and there’s one thing that really stands out.

It isn’t simply about passing a driving test.

It’s about how our learners feel while they’re learning and, most importantly, whether they leave us with the confidence and skills they need to drive safely on their own.

“Such a great experience with Caroline!”

Ashley from Taunton recently learned with Drive It Caroline and praised her honesty and determination to make sure she was properly prepared:

“I’d like to thank Caroline for all her help and encouragement throughout all my lessons. Would definitely recommend Caroline to everyone!”

That word prepared matters to us - Our instructors aren't there simply to get somebody through a driving test as quickly as possible. We want our learners to understand what they’re doing, develop their own judgement and ultimately be capable of making safe decisions without an instructor sitting beside them.

“Colette made sure I left feeling positive!”

Florence from Taunton highlighted something else that sits right at the heart of our approach - lessons being built around the individual learner.

After learning with Drive It Colette, Florence told us:

“Colette gave me structure based on the needs that were highlighted in the previous lesson. She also ensured that I left the lesson feeling positive!”

That is exactly what client-centred learning should look like - There shouldn’t be a rigid, one-size-fits-all lesson plan. Every learner is different. Every lesson should have a purpose, and what happens next should be based on the learner’s progress, needs and goals.

Two children. Two first-time passes. One very happy mum!

One of our favourite reviews this week actually came from a parent.

Laura from Wheddon Cross near Minehead trusted Drive It Paul to teach both of her children, and both went on to pass their driving tests first time.

But it was the second part of her review that meant even more:

“Paul taught both of my children to drive, and both passed their tests first time, but more importantly, they are safe confident drivers - thank you for everything!”

Safe, confident drivers - That's the result that really matters. A driving test lasts around 40 minutes. A driving licence could be with somebody for the next 60 or 70 years.

We’re incredibly proud of our first-time passes, but we’re even prouder when somebody leaves Drive It genuinely ready for everything that comes afterwards.

From intensive course to confident driver in less than a week

For some learners, weekly lessons work perfectly. Others want to learn more intensively.

Laurence completed one of our five-day intensive driving courses in Taunton with Drive It Paul and passed his test first time.

His feedback summed up exactly what we want an intensive course to achieve:

“Paul was patient, explained everything clearly. I can’t recommend this enough if you want to pass quickly without feeling rushed or unprepared!”

That last part is particularly important - Intensive doesn't have to mean rushed.

A properly structured intensive course should still give a learner time to understand, practise, reflect and develop confidence. The learning happens over a shorter period - the standard we expect at the end doesn't change.

“Jon was great, really patient and supportive”

Lilly from Williton described Drive It Jon as “really patient and supportive” and said he made learning to drive much easier.

She went on to achieve a first-time pass - Again, the result is fantastic - but look at the words being used to describe the experience: Patient. Supportive. Easier.

Learning to drive is a big deal. Some people take to it quickly, while others arrive for their first lesson incredibly nervous. A good driving instructor needs to recognise the person sitting next to them and adapt accordingly.

Confidence and patience with Drive It Nick

And then we had not one, but two fantastic pieces of feedback for Drive It Nick in Bridgwater.

Llayada told us:

“He is such a great instructor who is patient and helped me all throughout to gain confidence and calmed my nerves!”

Meanwhile, Viju said:

“I liked the way Nick trained me from day one. Nick always gave me the confidence I needed. Thank you Nick.”

Different learners - but that same theme appears again.

Confidence.

Because learning to drive isn't simply about being told what to do. Good coaching helps learners understand why they're doing something, recognise risk for themselves, make their own decisions and gradually become less dependent on their instructor.

That independence is ultimately what we're working towards.

Different instructors. Different learners. The same Drive It Difference.

Perhaps that's what we're most proud of when we look through this week's feedback.

These reviews aren't all about one instructor - we're a team!

They've come from learners taught by Caroline, Colette, Paul, Jon and Nick, in different parts of Somerset and through different types of driving courses.
