At Drive It School of Motoring, we’ve introduced Swap It with Drive It – our in-house driving test matching system designed to help our learners get the right test date at the right time.

And it’s already working.

In just one week, the Drive It Admin Team has successfully facilitated multiple test swaps between our learners, allowing pupils who are ready to take an earlier test while giving others valuable extra time to prepare.

How does Swap It with Drive It work?

With more than 500 learners across Drive It, we regularly have pupils with driving tests booked across Somerset and the surrounding areas. Sometimes a learner is completely test-ready but has a long wait ahead of them. Another learner may already have an earlier test but, following discussion with their instructor, would benefit from a few more weeks to become fully test-ready.

That’s where Swap It with Drive It comes in.

Our Admin Team can help identify potential matches within the Drive It network, allowing suitable learners to swap test dates through the official DVSA process. It means an earlier test doesn't have to go to waste – and a learner who is ready may not have to wait months unnecessarily.

No hours spent searching for Driving Test cancellations

One of the biggest frustrations facing learner drivers is finding a suitable driving test.

Constantly checking online for cancellations can take time, and even when a test appears, it may disappear before you can secure it.

Why we won't simply take someone to test to "give it a go"

There's another important reason we've introduced the system.

At Drive It, we don't believe in taking learners to their practical driving test simply to "give it a go".

A driving test should be the opportunity to demonstrate that you can drive independently, safely and confidently – not an expensive practice run. If you and your instructor agree that a few more weeks would significantly improve your chances, swapping to a later test could be the sensible choice. And rather than allowing that earlier appointment to go unused, we may have another Drive It learner who is already test-ready and would love the opportunity to take it.

Ready earlier? You could potentially pass earlier

Swap It with Drive It works both ways. If you've progressed more quickly than expected and your instructor believes you're ready for your practical test, tell them. If another Drive It learner needs to move their test back, you could potentially take their earlier date rather than waiting for your existing appointment. Equally, if you need a little more time, don't feel pressured into taking a test simply because you've got one booked. Your existing test could be exactly what another learner needs, while a later date could give you the extra preparation you need to approach yours with confidence.

Already learning with Drive It?

If you have a practical test booked and would like an earlier or later date, speak to your Drive It instructor. They can let the Admin Team know you're interested in a swap and, if a suitable match becomes available within the Drive It network, we'll see if we can help.

Test swaps are subject to suitable dates becoming available and are completed through the official DVSA process, so an alternative date cannot be guaranteed but we havent failed yet with a swap.
